We hypothesized that social channels could validate content topics before investing in long-form SEO articles. Here is what happened when we tested Reddit, X, and LinkedIn with identical content angles across 3 topics.

Experiment Overview

This is the first weekly experiment report in our build-in-public series.

Hypothesis: Social channels (Reddit, X, LinkedIn) can validate content topic resonance within 7 days, providing signal for which topics to invest in for long-form SEO content.

Duration: 7 days (March 3-9, 2026)

Primary metric: Engagement rate per platform

Setup

3 content topics tested across 3 platforms:

  1. Topic A: "The 80/20 of Growth Automation" (pillar: growth_automation)
  2. Topic B: "Why Most A/B Tests Are Statistically Invalid" (pillar: experiment_driven)
  3. Topic C: "Attribution Is Broken" (pillar: attribution)

Results by Platform

Reddit

Topic A: 3,200 impressions, 7.1% engagement, 85 clicks. Topic B: 2,100 impressions, 4.3% engagement. Topic C: 1,800 impressions, 3.1% engagement. Baseline: 1.5%.

All three exceeded baseline. Topic A significantly outperformed.

X (Twitter)

Topic A: 4,800 impressions, 2.1% engagement. Topic B: 6,200 impressions, 3.4% engagement, 62 clicks. Topic C: 3,100 impressions, 1.8%. Baseline: 2.0%.

Topic B performed strongest on X -- contrarian, educational content resonated.

LinkedIn

Topic A: 1,400 impressions, 4.2%. Topic B: 1,100 impressions, 3.8%. Topic C: 980 impressions, 5.1%, 24 clicks. Baseline: 3.0%.

Topic C found its audience on LinkedIn -- marketing professionals who deal with attribution daily.

Cross-Platform Attribution

  • Reddit visitors: 3:42 avg time on page, 38% bounce, 2.8% email signup
  • X visitors: 1:54 avg time, 62% bounce, 0.9% signup
  • LinkedIn visitors: 4:15 avg time, 31% bounce, 3.4% signup

LinkedIn delivered highest quality visitors despite lowest volume.

Decisions

  1. Double down on Reddit for growth automation content.
  2. Use X for contrarian/educational content only.
  3. Shift attribution content to LinkedIn.
  4. Invest in long-form content for Topic A first.
